s long ago as I can remember, art has
always been my passion. As a child, busy in my playroom, paper, fabrics and color fascinated me.   And as I grew, art |

continued to fill my mind with wonder...

With a background in Graphic Arts, my interests eventually turned to the dimensional arts and a love of sculpting evolved.  After being introduced to the world of polymers, I knew I had  found the most facinating medium! Oh, what possibilities!
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In 1994 my work was licensed into reproduction with the introduction of my first gift lines, "Happy Habits" the funny little nuns and "Li'l Bits", the little children with the big hats.  Both lines were highly sought by collectors and were sold nationwide until 2000.

In 2002 a new gift line
company licensed several additional designs for me and Heavenly Habits, Heaven Sent, Earth Angels, and Whispering Wings
were presented to the marketplace. It was an exciting time! Now I am content to create one of a kind figurative sculptures and market them  via  |

the web! The collectors and patrons make this
such a rewarding experience. My heartfelt thanks goes out to each and every one... |

Working from my home studio,  where I sometimes catch myself daydreaming and enjoying a colorful view of one of our many gardens, I work in solitude, sculpting my pieces from start to finish without the use of any molds or other sculpting aids.  My tools are simple; I use a Quikut knife, darning and knitting needles and paint brushes for smoothing the clay. Filbert brushes are my favorite... I say I work alone, but really, with all these little personalities coming to life right there on my desk, how can I be? They amuse me; they entertain me.  Sometimes, most  times, they melt my heart.....
|

For the past 20 years I have taught seminars in polymer clay sculpting to young and young at heart. My work has been featured on television, in newspaper articles, magazines and ads for polymer products. I have also written several instructional articles as useful teaching aids for companies and publications. Without the interest and support from you, the collector, none of this would be possible.  I will be forever grateful for the wonderful opportunities that have graced my life.

I cannot express the sheer pleasure I feel when a collector tells me one of my creations has brought them joy. That they will smile when they look into a fairy's sweet (or sometimes mischievous!) face, or as they hold a little nun in their hand perhaps a tear fills their eye or a little flutter rises in their heart from a memory stirred, then I know I have reached my goal.  This intrinsic act of creating a figure, then watching that expression spread across the face of the viewer, or to hear the heartfelt comments of that one special person who ultimately takes this sculpture for their own collection; it is this exquisite exchange that spiritually intertwines me with that person. The cycle is complete and I am free to move on; to create again. And yes, life is good.

Born and raised in the Midwest, we continue to live here in "God's Country".  It is beautiful and so very peaceful here among the towering pines. The kids are grown and now we get to enjoy the wonderful antics of the grandkids.  They are most certainly a constant source of entertainment and inspiration!!
Ahh, yes, life IS good...and I am blessed. In youth I took it for granted; but now I do not, I feel I have been graced with a gift--and it is my pleasure to share it with you.  I hope one of my 'little people' will bring a smile to your face--and if it does, my job is done, and I thank you. |

I've set aside this space for testamonials from loyal Patrons:
...We reached the conclusion quite a while ago that your sculpts are the highest quality of any artist offering. Technically, your sculpts are flawless. Anatomically, the details are superb. Artistically, you are able to capture with realism a wider spectrum of facial types, expressions, and ages than anyone else. And your aesthetic sense in color schemes is wonderful. Your sculpts seem to be caught in the act of living. I love it! And I believe I've mentioned before, but no one else's finished clay feels the way yours does either. I suspect that has everything to do with sculpting technique & baking practices.   The entire process of buying from you is a pleasure. There is the beautiful auction lay-out. The friendly e-mails. The professional, but personalized shipping. Never any breakage. Never any lost packages. Never a delay of a week or more before you ship. Your pride in your work and your love of sharing your creations is very apparent.   I feel joy when I look at your sculpts. Joy that it seems to me comes personally imbued in each creation directly from you. I think it is a very rare gift to be able to translate your own apparent personal joy in this creativity and share it so entirely with your audience. I am very privledged to have stumbled across your art at a time when I can afford to acquire it for my very own. But your art speaks to me from the photos of your sculptures as well. Even were I not to have any for my own collection, I can feel wonder & vibrance as I look at pictures of your works. No one else seems to communicate so much of the energy of their creations into the final form. Much less to do so with technical expertise.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Deb Wood, you are nothing short of a master of your craft.
I've poured over your online work ...gasped and stared at your finished pieces, silenced by your talent. To say I am enamored and awestuck would be an understatement. One one hand, I want to burn everything I've ever created and hang my head in despair...on the other, I want to create more and more, striving to become half the artist you are.   This mere mortal can only marvel at your talent and settle for what I can. Thank you, Deb, for everything. Please never stop.   Write a book...I want to buy it and read it again and again (sign mine please).   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After I picked up my lower lip, lol, all I could do was STARE AT HER FOR AN HOUR!!!!!!!!  GORGEOUS, BEAUTIFUL, CLASSY, DETAILED, HER EYES ARE ALIVE, her FACE is stunning!!!!!!! COSTUMING LOVELY!!!
THE WINGS look fit for an ANGEL! And her SKIN...the coloring is PERFECT! Well, you've gone and done it Deb...spoiled me from other artists. I tell ya lady, once someone has one of yours, they'll be very picky and scrutinize anyone else's work. You raise the bar! Hmm, I wonder if I should go back on your commission list and get in line just incase I'm not lucky enough again to win on ebay?! I want another Deb fae!   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My daughter and I just spent some time on your website. She kept saying, "oh that is my favorite" with
every click. There are many I haven't seen and many more that took my breath away. I love your work and am grateful to have someone like you in the world who can create such beauty week after week.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My Fairy just arrived and she's absolutely breathtaking! She's even far more stunning than I had imagined...thank you so much! I have to tell you that I have collected quite a few miniature porcelain dolls and have started collecting the OOAK fairy sculptures...and the quality of this fairy is one of the best...if not the best I have ever seen! You are a true artist. Thank you for letting me give her a home that she will definitely be a star attraction in.  I look forward to seeing any and all of your new creations in 2008... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

... I have her right in front of me and I can't keep my eyes off of her. She is absolutely PERFECT. You have not overlooked even the smallest detail - your artistry is truly a gift.  Sometimes one is disappointed. I have bid on so many of your previous fairies and wasn't lucky enough to receive one prior to this- and sometimes one builds an image in their head and are disappointed when they receive the actual item. But in this case you superceded all of my expectations. I indeed feel honored and priviledged to display this piece of art. And I hope that I will be lucky enough to add more to my collection. Thank you from the bottom of my heart - you made one collector extremely happy!!!!   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What can I say? Words escape me when it comes to describing how beautiful she is. I am awestruck by the
intricacy, the fine detail, the anatomical proportions, the expressiveness, her skirt, shoes, hair, crown, everything! I am overwhelmed by her beauty. I can’t keep from looking at her as I try to type this. She is the most phenomenal figure in my collection. Of the artists whom I have collected, only you and a few others seem to have the understanding of anatomy and proportionality. It is as if you took a living vision of loveliness, minimized her, and turned her to clay! You are the consummate artist. I look forward to adding another of your lovely creations to my collection. It may not be tomorrow, but I certainly won’t pass up the opportunity to acquire another of your wonderful sculptures. |
